Upolu is the main island of Samoa. It is where the Capital Apia is located along with the majority of the business community. This will give you the opportunity to investigate Apia with it's restaurants and nightlife then spend a few days on the beach snorkeling or just working on the tan.
If you prefer somewhere less developed why not try Savaii the other main island. Here you get the same great sand and the warm pacific but with less traffic and a more sedate lifestyle.

Bertie's B&B Apia
This is a small family run bed and breakfast. It offers clean comfortable rooms at a good rate. It is family friendly and while it advertises as a B&B it also does fantastic evening meals on request.
Taufua Beach Fales
This is to experience the true Samoan hospitality. Take a fale right on the beach. Fall asleep to the sound of waves breaking on the reef.
Boomerang Creek, Saleapaga
Boomerang Creek is run by Ana Harrison and her family. It has both beach fales and fales on the hillside to give a more panoramic view of the South Coast Beaches.
Coconuts Beach Club
Unique in Samoa Coconuts is a laid back tropical resort. Coconuts offers 3 kinds of individual fales, the only Over the Water Fales in Samoa, beach Fales and the new Royal Beach Fales.
Savaii Lagoon Resort
